How to rock your summer photo shoot
Today it feels like summer is finally here, so while the sun is out and I’m feeling positive we’re in for a good summer, here are my top tips for rocking your summer photo shoot. What I love about summer shoots is that feeling you get when you just want to head outdoors and stay there catching some rays while you can. There also tends to be lots of beautiful flowers which add lots of colour to our shots. However, there are some things to be aware of, so read on to make sure you get the most out of your summer shoot. Oh and don’t forget to check out my summer moodboard I made earlier over on Pinterest.
Here are my top tips to get the most out of your summer photo shoot.
1. Avoid dreaded sun burn
Sun burn really doesn’t look great on camera, as I’m sure you can imagine, right? The best way to get round this is to avoid spending too much time out in the sun in the days leading up to your shoot so that your skin is looking at its best. At this time of year, your skin tends to be drier than normal so if you have time, lather on the moisturiser as you get closer to your shoot.
2. Wear sun-screen
On the day, make sure you’re wearing a high factor sun-screen even if the forecast isn’t predicting sunny weather. It’s amazing how a little bit of sun exposure can quickly start to redden the skin and this is tricky to deal with in Photoshop.
3. Bring a bottle of water
Photo shoots can be more tiring than you might think, so it’s worth having a bottle of water on you especially if the sun is out. It’ll stop you getting dehydrated and keep you looking radiant throughout.
4. Bring sunglasses
It’s a good idea to carry sunglasses with you so that between shots when we’re wandering around you can protect your eyes from the glare. You may occasionally be asked to face the direction of the sun during the shoot, which can put a strain on your eyes so as much rest from the glare between shots is going to be welcome.
5. Embrace the carefree vibe
For most of our shoots, we encourage our clients to channel carefree as much as possible so that we’re capturing a vibe that is attractive for dating photos. In summer, it’s so much easier to do this. It’s easier to imagine you’re somewhere gorgeous and warm, relaxing and far from work and any stresses of daily life.
