How to rock your spring photo shoot
How to rock your spring photo shoot
Finally, spring is here and it’s actually the best time of year to book your photo shoot. There is usually a lot of light around but not the harsh, strong light that you can get during the summer. The temperature is starting to climb which means you won’t need to be wrapped up in thick coats and scarves in between shots and most importantly, everything is starting to bloom so there is a lot more colour around, which as you’ve probably guessed is a favourite for Hey Saturday photographers. Now is the time to throw off those heavy coats and start digging deep into your wardrobe to find some cool outfits that you can show off. Here is a moodboard I made earlier over on Pinterest, which you might want to check out.
So here are my top tips to get the most out of your spring photo shoot.
1. Be prepared for spring showers
With spring comes lots of light rain showers. Our photographers can usually work in light showers so it’s up to our clients to decide the day before their shoot, if they want to go ahead with the shoot or not. If you have any concerns about frizzy hair issues, then we recommend you postpone your shoot. There is nothing we can do in photoshop if you aren’t happy with your hair on the day. If however, you have robust hair that isn’t turned into a ball of frizz at the hint of a rain shower, then you might want to brave it out, bring your brolly and go ahead with your shoot. Photographers don’t mind a bit of rain around as it creates really nice light. That said, if the forecast is predicting heavy rain, we’ll be postponing in a shot as we need to protect our gear.
2. Wear suncream under your make up
Even though it doesn’t feel particularly hot at this time of year, it’s always good to have suncream on. It’s particularly good to wear it under your make up on a shoot so that if the sun does end up being unexpectedly strong (wishful thinking!) then you won’t get that red tinge on your skin which again is hard to remove in photoshop. Make sure you rub the cream in well though so you can’t see it on camera.
3. Wear layers
Wearing layers is a good way to showcase a few different looks really quickly without eating into your shoot time, having to go off and change somewhere. You can layer t-shirts and shirts under jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts and cardigans.
4. Wear bold colours
Spring is most definitely the time to hunt out some colour in your wardrobe. If you want to make your dating photo really jump off the page as people scroll through pages of dating profiles, then you can’t do much better than some nice colour pop. If a client turns up with a gorgeous orange coat, yellow blouse or bright blue jacket, I get very excited because I know it’s going to really add value to their photo.
