Knowing where to shoot pictures for your dating profile can be a hard one. Here at Lovestruck.com we’re no photography experts (unlike the lovely host of this blog) but what we do know is that London is one of the world’s most diverse and exciting cities with some pretty cool sights attractions and activities. From stellar skylines, like the London Eye and The Shard, to beautiful green spaces, like Hampstead Heath and the amazing Royal Parks, it’s no wonder that some of the best and most iconic films have been filmed in our capital.

So with this is mind, we had a good think about some film backdrops, that anyone looking at your dating profile might recognise, think they recognise or at least might make them pause and think: ‘Hang on, I recognise that…who is this clever person…’

Here they are:

280 Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill

Film inspiration: Notting Hill (1999)

This famous blue door must be one of the most famous British film locations to grace our screens. This was actually the real-life home of director Richard Curtis but was filmed as the flat of bookshop owner William Thacker (Hugh Grant), who sees the famous actress Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) walk into his bookshop. After a second chance encounter, romance begins to blossom. Other backdrops for the film include Bella and Max’s house, which is on Lansdowne Road, the Coronet Cinema, the communal Rosmead Gardens, Kenwood House and The Ritz.

Favourite quote: “I’m just a girl, standing in front on a boy, asking him to love her.”

Parliament Hill Lido

Film inspiration: One Day (2011)

Located on Hampstead Heath, the gorgeous Parliament Hill Lido has recently been upgraded with a whopping £2.9million lavished on it. The lido was one of 50 locations in the adaptation of David Nicholls bestselling novel, which followed the lives of Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) who meet at Edinburgh University and after becoming firm friends, eventually fall in love. Other London landmarks include the Rio Cinema in Dalston.

King’s Cross Station

Film inspiration: Harry Potter

Did you succumb to Potter-mania? The Hogwart’s Express, transport to school for Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint), departs from Platform 9 ¾ here, which is actually an arched wall between platforms 4 and 5. If you want something a little more magical, head towards the entrance between Platforms, 9, 10 and 11 on the west side of the station where you’ll find a trolley disappearing into the magical realm. Other Potter-filled London film backdrops include St Pancras International, Piccadilly Circus, Millennium Bridge and Leadenhall Market.

Grosvenor Chapel, Mayfair

Film Inspiration: Love Actually (2003)

This classic rom com, from Richard Curtis, features the complex love lives of eight different couples including Peter and Juliet, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Keira Knightly, who get married at the chapel in Mayfair, complete with ad-hoc orchestral accompaniment. Other London sites that feature in the film include 27 St Luke’s Mews in Notting Hill, the couple’s home, Selfridges and Elliott School in Putney, where almost all the cast go to see a Nativity play.

Film inspiration: Closer (2004)

In Patrick Marber’s film about four people who are thrown together and are constantly making the wrong choices at the wrong time, Anna (Julia Roberts) and Larry (Clive Owen) meet up and Larry refuses to sign the divorce papers unless she consents to sex for one last time. Other London hotspots that feature in the film include St Paul’s Cathedral, Thames Embankment, London SeaLife Aquarium and Whiteleys in Queensway.
